Repertoire

The choir usually sings in three parts (SSA): soprano, mezzo-soprano and contralto. Some pieces within our repertoire give certain members of the choir a chance to shine, with solos or small group singing. Our repertoire at present is varied, from Songs from the Shows to Elgar.

Within our current repertoire, we have music in Latin, Swahili, Maori and Brazilian. These have all proven to be a challenge to the choir, but we have a great sense of achievement when performing these works at concerts.

Amongst the favourites of the choir are a couple of medleys, which are modern and upbeat!

Rehearsals

Choir rehearsals are held every Wednesday evening from 7.30–9.30 pm in the Horfield United Reformed Church Hall, Muller Road, Horfield, Bristol BS7 9PP. The church is situated on the southeast corner of Muller Road and Downend Road. The entrance to the church hall is on Downend Road. For a map, please visit Google Maps at http://maps.google.co.uk/ and type 'BS7' in the 'Search' field.

Parking near the church can be difficult. If you drive, we recommend that you arrive at least 10 minutes early and, if possible, car share.

Part of each rehearsal evening is devoted to practising voice production, breathing techniques, posture, and pronunciation of words. This greatly enhances the professionalism of the choir.

Subscriptions

Choir membership is £22 per quarter. This covers the cost of the music and rental of the church hall. Concert attire is normally subsidised by the choir, as is the coach hire during organised trips, either for social events or choir business.

Concerts

Venues and dates for concerts will be announced as soon as they have been arranged. The choir holds an Annual Concert in the summer. In general, you will be responsible for arranging your own transport to concerts but on some occasions a coach will be arranged. Concert attire is tailored to the requirements of our concerts. This is normally subsidised by the choir.
